Prof.'in Dr. Christina Eisenbarth
„Produktive Krisen. Wandel gestalten." – Inaugural Lecture

Christina Eisenbarth studied architecture and urban planning at the Schule für Architektur Saar, ENSA Nancy and the University of Stuttgart, specialising in resource- and energy-efficient construction. From 2017 to 2025 she conducted research and taught at the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart. There she developed the internationally patented hydroactive building envelope system — HydroSKIN — which mitigates urban flood and heat risks through rainwater absorption and evaporative cooling. Since the summer semester of 2025 she has been Tenure-Track Professor for Design and Technology and Resilience in Architecture at TU Darmstadt.

Wolfgang Tillmans, Berlin/London
„Lecture for Architects"

Wolfgang Tillmans (born 1968 in Remscheid, Germany) is an artist working primarily in photography whose practice encompasses three-dimensional installations, sound and video, book making, journalism and writing as well as photographs generated both with and without a camera.

Seamlessly integrating genres, techniques, and exhibition strategies, Tillmans has expanded conventional ways of approaching the medium. His work has epitomised a new kind of subjectivity in photography, pairing intimacy and playfulness with social critique.

Since the early 1990s, Tillmans’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at international institutions. Recent exhibitions include Nothing could have prepared us – Everything could have prepared us at Centre Pompidou, Paris (2025); Weltraum at the Albertinum, Dresden (2025); and Ausstellung in Remscheid at Haus Cleff, Remscheid (2025–26). Tillmans was included recently in the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil, Not All Travellers Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice (2025–26). His survey exhibition To look without fear was presented at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2022); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2023); and Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto (2023).

He has been awarded the Goslar Kaiserring Prize (2018), Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography (2015), Royal Academician Award (2014), Turner Prize (2000), Ars Viva Prize (1995), and Kunstpreis der Böttcherstraße (1995).

Tillmans has operated the nonprofit exhibition space Between Bridges since 2006. Located in London until 2011, the space reopened in Berlin in 2014. Tillmans lives and works in Berlin and London.

About the Series

The Wednesday Evening Lectures of the Department of Architecture explore current topics at the intersection of architecture, art and culture. The series asks what is relevant and important today — socially, creatively and across disciplines. Renowned figures offer insights into their work and open up new perspectives on building and thinking in our time.

The series is conceived and organised by Prof. Wolfgang Lorch (Construction and Experimental Design) and his team. Open to the general public, the lectures are the most widely attended non-curricular event series at Technische Universität Darmstadt.
