SHE/HER – Women in Architecture
2026/04/15
Who designs our spaces – and whose voice counts? Between sketch and reality, ambition and everyday life, students examine a profession that was long male-dominated – and in many places still is. Where do we stand today? Who is heard, who is overlooked? How do women find their space, their role, their position? The questions at stake are visibility, power and attribution – and how gender intersects with origin, culture and other social factors. Intercultural perspectives and intersectional experiences reveal how unequally access and opportunity remain distributed to this day.
As part of the seminar series SHE/HER, students at TU Darmstadt explore the current understanding of women's roles in architecture. Their own experiences from studying and entering the profession are complemented by numerous conversations and interviews with architects.
The project day on 22.04.2026 provides a platform to discuss the questions and theses developed throughout the seminar together and to engage in broader exchange with the audience.
A publication brings together the individual – and in part deeply personal – contributions by Hadeel Al Deiri, Ranim Arznjani, Selin Celik, Ela Dogan, Clara Eschmann, Victoria Eyrich, Niklas Philipp Gerhard, Marlene Hoppmann, Julia Krauczukas, Mariya Moshkevych, Marija Njegovanovic, Romina Oettlin, Lucia Schwaab, Vlad Secuianu, Christian Steffen, Lina Youssafi and Prof. Elke Reichel, and will be presented on this occasion.
Also on show are photographic portraits of emerging women architects, exploring and reflecting on representations of contemporary role models.
