Support for PhD Candidates

Graduate School of Urban Studies URBANgrad

A core mission of the Center for Resilient Cities is to support early-career researchers (doctoral candidates and postdocs within the URBANGrad Graduate School) in developing their academic and professional careers. This is achieved through a variety of formats – ranging from open research discussions to individual advising and mentoring.

Longstanding support for early-career researchers in Urban Studies

The Graduate School of Urban Studies (URBANgrad) at TU Darmstadt is an interdisciplinary institution that offers doctoral candidates the opportunity to complete their dissertation within three years, supported by intensive supervision from professors, weekly colloquia, workshops, training sessions, and funding for conferences and research stays abroad, and is closely linked to the Centre for Urban Research.

Programme

The graduate school offers doctoral candidates of the Cities Lab a diverse range of support formats—from the annual thematic URBANGrad Round Table and the regularly held online research colloquium to weekly consultation hours and individual doctoral supervision. The content, format, and frequency of these activities are continuously adapted to the needs and feedback of the members to ensure collaborative, demand-oriented support throughout the entire research process.
