Through the various topics that fall under the umbrella of rapid urban transformations, the UML team investigates current urban challenges from an interdisciplinary and international geographical perspective.

The research aims are to highlight the complexity, multi-layered nature, and interconnectedness of urban transformation processes; to collaborate with international and interdisciplinary researchers and practitioners; to provide in-depth insights; to present solution-oriented approaches; and to produce scientific publications. The UML research team has been involved in several academic projects addressing the diverse yet overlapping relationships between urban issues such as technological advances (digital awareness in cities), sociopolitical changes (migration), questions of identity and sense of place (city imagineering), and urban health (air pollution, global pandemics).
