Our Goals

Objectives of the Center

The Center for Resilient Cities strengthens the scientific and theoretical foundations and design-based engagement with research topics related to the sustainable and common-good-oriented city (SDG 11), with a particular focus on resilience strategies for cities.

Resilience is understood as an integrated goal of urban development. This includes, above all, strategies for climate adaptation and health promotion that simultaneously aim to enhance the spatial qualities of urban environments. The goal of the Center for Resilient Cities is to foster a well-informed dialogue on innovative approaches that strengthen the resilience and sustainability of cities and their surrounding regions.

The Center is also conceived as an invitation to other institutes within the Department and TU Darmstadt to deepen collaborative research efforts.

Tasks and Responsibilities of the Center for Resilient Cities

  • Further development of innovative research themes,
  • Coordination and alignment of research activities,
  • Support of research collaborations in connection with the Urban Morphosis Lab,
  • Collection of ideas and development of new research initiatives
  • Supervision of doctoral researchers of the Cities Lab within the Urban Grad graduate program,
  • Visibility of research topics through exhibitions, lectures, and publications,
  • Organization of an annual symposium at the Department of Architecture,
  • Knowledge exchange between academia and practice.
