Cities today are defined not by growth, but by their ability to adopt and re-invent themselves. Climate crises, social divides, and resource limits are reshaping how we live, work, and move.

This urban design studio asks: How can a mono-functional infrastructure landscape be transformed into a productive, regenerative, and socially embedded urban district? Students will explore neighbourhoods as living systems that connect work, housing, infrastructure, ecology, and care. In Schaerbeek Formation, Brussels, they will develop strategies that go beyond static masterplans, envisioning cooperative and resilient urban frameworks.

Building on the Brussels Canal and the area’s legacy as a port and productive hub, the goal is to envision a neighbourhood that learns, repairs, and evolves — one that is functionally diverse, spatially flexible, socially integrated, and environmentally regenerative.
