The urban design studio “Translation of Planning Ideas: Learning from Barcelona’s Superblocks” emphasizes international perspective in dissemination and translation of planning ideas, along with the importance of local characteristics for their successful implementation. The workshop in Barcelona explored the planning idea of the superblocks, and highlight the elements of sustainability and interdisciplinarity, as well as the importance of compromise and inclusion when dealing with different actors and stakeholders in the city. The critical knowledge gained in the workshop was the starting point for the urban planning task of translating this planning idea into the specific context of Darmstadt's inner city.

Besides from practical tasks, the workshop was complemented by the lectures and guiding tours by the local academics and practitioners: Prof. Dr. Carmen MENDOZA (UIC), Anna GUTIERREZ (UIC), Albert CASAS (Metronom Arquitectura), Dr. Raquel COLACIOS (UOC).
