The aim of the new center is to consolidate, highlight, and further develop research on the specific contributions of architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture to urban resilience.

The center focuses in particular on the design and spatial dimension of resilience measures: How can different elements of resilient adaptation be integrated into coherent spatial concepts? Architectural and landscape architectural design serves as a research-based strategy to develop integrated solutions that not only meet functional requirements but also address emotional aspects—offering, for example, a sense of security and comfort in the face of potential crises.

Another central mission of the center is the promotion of early-career researchers. Doctoral candidates and postdocs—especially within the framework of the URBANGrad graduate school—benefit from a variety of offerings, including open research workshops, collegial discussions, individual guidance, and mentoring. The goal is to support young researchers in their academic and professional development and to provide a productive, interdisciplinary environment.
