Crossing boundaries
Boundaries not only separate one thing from another, they also call for the crossing of boundaries. ln the arts, the boundaries between genres are repeatedly broken down.
Experiments lead to hybrids that make it impossible to draw boundaries. ln architectural or urban planning designs, boundaries organise space functionally and creatively, separating and connecting. Border zones are also no man's land, marginal areas, periphery – they represent creative potentials, but also challenges. Currently, geographical and political borders are being crossed, whether due to war, persecution or the consequences of climate change. “Crossing borders” is thus topical in many ways.
