Congratulations on Passing your Doctorate Examination!

Dr. des. Gladys Vasquez Fauggier successfully completes her dissertation on child-friendly mobility in cities.

2024/02/05

Gladys has been working as a research assistant in many research and teaching projects at the Chair of Design and Urban Planning since 2017. Her Master's thesis in the international Mundus Urbano program laid the foundation for her research under the guiding question: How can we plan urban districts in which children can be as active, independent and safe as possible by bike or on foot?

In her dissertation, she uses two case studies – the closure of Frankfurt's Mainkai to motorised traffic and the car-reduced Lincoln-Siedlung district in Darmstadt – to show the effects on the use of public space and possible design solutions. She had already published the results on the Mainkai in advance as co-author to article. We are now looking forward to the publication of her dissertation and wish Gladys a good start in her new role as Commissioner for Pedestrian Traffic for the City of Frankfurt.
