Arthur Zalewski's photographic practice can be described as artistic documentary photography. The photographer, born in 1971, deals with structures of urban development. In long-term projects, he creates image archives of places in relation to economic and cultural developments. The starting point is to approach the present of a place through the architectural, historical and socio-cultural factors that determine it. To do this, he exposes himself to the respective place, spends time there and deals with the specific situation on site.

Le Corbusier planned and built five Unités d'Habitation from 1945 to 1967 in Marseille, Rezé (Nantes), Berlin, Briey-en-Forêt and Firminy. He developed a new type of building, a multifunctional apartment block that combined a large number of flats with a roofscape and other urban structures such as a kindergarten, cinema, pharmacy and grocery shop on a small footprint. The prototype of the Unités was completed in 1952 in Marseille and triggered an international discussion due to its revolutionary conception as a vertical city with completely new solutions to urban planning, social, aesthetic and constructional questions. The five Unités are in very different states today.
