Living and studying with an invisible illness poses unique challenges. How can I share my experience with others? Will I be believed? What support options are available? And do I have enough spoons left for the next lecture? In this workshop, the fundamental concepts for understanding illness, as well as societal health norms, will be explained, and participants will analyze their own personal connection to them (e.g., internalized ableism). The workshop will include group and individual exercises, providing space and opportunities to connect with other affected individuals, feel understood, and learn from each other through everyday examples and sharing experiences. In a safe environment, participants can reflect on their own relationship with illness, with all its ambivalences and contradictions. Supportive psychological techniques will be taught to perceive and regulate emotions, deepening a compassionate attitude towards one's own needs. Encouragement and empowerment will be central aspects throughout the workshop. The workshop is aimed at (neurodivergent) students with invisible physical illnesses and/or mental health impairments. Let us be our true weird selves.
