Linda Novotny and Joel Geier developed their award-winning projects during the summer semester in the Department of Design and Building Technology. The goal of these projects was to modernize Tinglado 2, a historic warehouse in the port of Valencia (Spain), for diverse future-oriented uses. The developed concepts were also intended to be transferable to comparable university buildings. The focus was on visionary reuse and modernization designs, conceptually developed within the interplay of vision, function, and form.
Linda Novotny won first prize with her design, El Pueblo. The jury particularly praised the sustainable reuse of the historic Tinglado halls as an “open village” that unites research, teaching, and craftsmanship. Her concept is based on a flexible spatial design that integrates sustainable materials and upcycling while promoting interaction and exchange. Visitors are guided through alleys and squares designed to encourage interaction. The structure of the design is so flexible that it can adapt to new requirements over time.
Joel Geier's project, Nexus of Desalination, made it to the shortlist. The jury particularly appreciated his intensive engagement with the challenging, massive end structures and his strong focus on sustainability.
The Campus³ Award, presented by rheform – EntwicklungsManagement GmbH, honors forward-looking concepts in university architecture for the fifth time this year. In cooperation with the architectural magazine Bauwelt and the German University Association, the award supports students and doctoral candidates in architecture-related disciplines. The award includes a prize of €5,000, distributed among the best concepts.
The jury convened on September 24 in Bonn, and the formal award ceremony took place on November 28 in Berlin.
