10.05.2022

Her lecture focused on intersectional relationship between gender, urban infrastructure and violence and emphasized incorporation of gender theory in architecture and urban planning discipline.

The Master of Gender and Diversity is a common project of five Flemish universities – KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, University of Ghent, Hasselt University and the Free University of Brussels.

As part of this master, the course on Gender and Diversity: Science and Care, organized by Prof. Dr. Veerle Draulans (Faculty of Social Sciences, Center for Sociological Research) offers KU Leuven students the opportunity to think beyond their specific discipline and to become acquainted with the particular aspects of a gender approach in an interdisciplinary perspective.

Dr. Anshika Suri gave a guest lecture in this course on sanitary regimes in East Africa from an interdisciplinary perspective on 03 March, 2022. Her lecture focused on intersectional relationship between gender, urban infrastructure and violence and emphasized incorporation of gender theory in architecture and urban planning discipline.

The lecture also discussed the power to change of gender mainstreaming strategies: do policies and practices perpetuate existing social power relations or do they stimulate change? The question of the meaning of the situatedness of knowledge is also reviewed with the students.
