Frankfurt Mainufer – Urban design for inclusive places along the new Riverside North

Since July 2019 Frankfurt has temporarily banned cars from a 1.2 km stretch of its former 4-lanes inner city route along the river Main. So far there are no concepts available that show how the redevelopment of this central open space can be integrated with a strategic development of inclusive city centres – offering great places to support the urban transformation towards more green modes. In this design studio you will learn to develop perspectives to improve usability and pedestrian accessibility of public space and urban mobility systems, how to connect cultural institutions and „third places“ with urban design and how to program urban open space that offers visual and sensory access to the water and invites visitors and residents.
