Bahnhofs.Quartier for All: Inclusive urban planning for Biebrich
Labeled as “Bahnhofs.Quartier Biebrich – an inclusive 15-minute neighbourhood”, the city of Wiesbaden places inclusion and diversity as central quality requirements of urban planning right from the start. We understand inclusive urban planning as recognizing the diversity of the residents as normality and making them usable for the community in the best possible way. At the same time, inclusion requires to create a structural environment as well as suitable services and planning processes that enable comprehensive social participation for all people. In this design studio, you will develop urban planning concepts which celebrate the goals of inclusion in as many fields of urban development, e.g. housing, mobility, public space, mixed use, as possible. You will start off with an urban analysis of existing planning schemes for the area, including scenarios from the city of Wiesbaden and results from earlier design studios at TU Darmstadt. You will learn the basics of “design for all”, which, based on specific requirements, develops solutions that are cost-effective and suitable for everyday use, aesthetically pleasing and attractive to everyone.
